Delta State Reports Four Confirmed Cases Of Lassa Fever....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Delta state government has verified the presence of four cases of Lassa fever within the state, as confirmed by Joseph Onojaeme, the state’s health commissioner. The affected areas include Okpe, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ndokwa East Council areas.

To address this, Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) have been established throughout the state to oversee the situation and ensure that residents are well-informed.

Onojaeme stated, “In week 12, we have recorded four confirmed cases with a fatality rate of 50%, although the typical fatality rate for Lassa fever ranges from 1% to 15%. Hence, we are exerting every possible effort to contain the transmission from patients to healthcare workers and relatives.”

The commissioner highlighted ongoing advocacy efforts, particularly aimed at healthcare workers, and the sensitization of residents to remain vigilant when encountering such cases. Additionally, collaboration with the Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State has enabled the state to expedite the process of obtaining Lassa fever test results, reducing the waiting time from 72 hours to less than 24 hours.
