In a recent address during a working visit by Minister Abubakar Momoh of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, Governor Uzodimma of Imo State passionately advocated for a revamped approach to the Amnesty program.

Despite the noble intentions behind the program, Governor Uzodimma expressed concerns about its effectiveness in positively impacting the lives of Niger Delta residents. He emphasized that while the program aims to bring discipline and order to the region, its current structure may not adequately address the pressing needs of the people.

He noted that despite the ongoing efforts, the program’s impact on grassroots communities remains limited.

Governor Uzodimma’s call for action resonates with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, which has long advocated for the domiciliation of the Amnesty program within its purview. By integrating the program into the ministry, stakeholders believe that it can be more effectively coordinated, streamlined, and responsive to the needs of Niger Delta communities.

The Governor’s remarks underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive review and restructuring of the Amnesty program to ensure that it achieves its intended objectives of fostering peace, stability, and development in the Niger Delta region. As discussions continue, stakeholders remain committed to finding innovative solutions that will bring about meaningful change and transformation to the region.
