Child Accused Of Witchcraft, Left Abandoned In Akwa Ibom Village

Danish humanitarian Anja Loven Ringgren Loven and her team recently saved a severely malnourished young girl who had been abandoned and left to perish in Akwa State after being falsely accused of witchcraft. Loven disclosed this development on Thursday, March 28, 2024, highlighting the dire condition in which they found the child.

“Yesterday, we received a distress call from a village, urging us to rescue a little girl in an extremely critical condition,” she stated.

Accompanied by the Land of Hope Director of Child Development, their rescue team promptly responded to the location.

“Orok was taken aback when he encountered the girl in such a precarious state. She is approximately 1 year and a few months old,” Loven recounted.

It’s a common tragedy that children labeled as witches are forsaken and left to perish in remote areas.

“The girl has been abandoned. Sadly, this is often the fate of children accused of witchcraft – they are abandoned to die in the wilderness,” she lamented.

The rescued girl is now under the care of Land of Hope, and Loven appealed for support in providing her with essential medical treatment.
