The Nigeria Police Force has announced the apprehension of eight suspects linked to the murder of its officers during a fact-finding mission in the Ughelli area of Delta State. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement released on Saturday from Abuja.

The incident occurred on February 23 when the officers conducting the fact-finding mission were ambushed, resulting in the tragic deaths of six police personnel. Adejobi stated that the arrests came after rigorous investigative efforts by police operatives.

Initially, five suspects were taken into custody shortly after the incident, with three more apprehended at different locations subsequently. The additional arrests were facilitated by information obtained from the initial five suspects, demonstrating their cooperation with the investigation.

All suspects are currently held in police custody, providing assistance to ongoing inquiries. Adejobi emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to swiftly and decisively bring all perpetrators of such heinous crimes to justice.

He assured that once investigations are concluded, the suspects would face trial in court with credible evidence. Adejobi expressed the police force’s profound sadness over the violent attack on its officers, emphasizing the gravity of the offense committed against them.
