Niger State Police Apprehend 19-Year-Old Suspect in Connection with the Death of 14-Year-Old Friend in Bosso Local Government Area
The Niger State Police Command has taken into custody a 19-year-old individual identified as Yakubu Tanko, over allegations of the homicide of his 14-year-old acquaintance, Sikiru Tajudeen, within Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, March 30, 2024, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, it was revealed that the body of the minor was discovered inside a septic tank in the community subsequent to his reported disappearance.
According to the statement, Tanko purportedly struck the victim with a stick, resulting in his immediate demise, before concealing the body in a sack within the kitchen premises.
Afterwards, Tanko allegedly retrieved a borrowed wheelbarrow to transport the deceased’s remains, which were then disposed of in a nearby septic tank, apparently in an effort to obscure the crime.
Upon being apprehended and subjected to interrogation, Tanko reportedly confessed to the offense, although he purportedly provided no justifiable motive for his actions, other than alleging that the deceased had entrusted him with a phone for charging.
The statement from the command detailed the sequence of events leading to the discovery of the crime, including the reporting of the victim’s absence, the subsequent detection of suspicious items within his residence, and the eventual revelation of his lifeless body concealed within the community’s septic tank.
Tanko has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and serves as a grim reminder of the importance of upholding law and order to prevent such senseless acts of violence.
