A controversial marriage between a 63-year-old priest and a 12-year-old girl has ignited widespread condemnation.

The wedding ceremony occurred on Saturday, March 30, in Nungua, Ghana, where the priest, identified as Gborbu Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, exchanged vows with the young girl, reportedly named Naa Okromo.

According to a guest who supported the marriage, it stemmed from a long-standing tradition requiring the priest to marry a virgin. The shrine of Gborbu Wulomo in Nungua, Greater Accra region, defended the marriage, stating that the girl is still in school and does not reside
