A 35-year-old man, Abayomi Babalola, was apprehended by Amotekun Corps officials in Osun State on allegations of using black magic to ensnare a housewife as a sex slave for a duration of three weeks.
The spokesperson for Osun Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu, disclosed the arrest in a statement released in Osogbo on Wednesday. According to Idowu, the suspect, residing in Modakeke, utilized a magical ring provided by a cleric to coerce the victim, known only as Sofiyat, out of her marital home and relocate her to Modakeke, where she was held captive and subjected to sexual exploitation.
The suspect’s luck ran out when he abandoned the victim near the Campus Area in Ile-Ife last Friday. Upon being left alone, Sofiyat regained consciousness and raised an alarm, prompting nearby Amotekun operatives to respond.
Upon hearing Sofiyat’s harrowing experience at the hands of Babalola, the Amotekun operatives tracked down the suspect to his hideout in Sekona, where he was subsequently arrested.
Babalola reportedly confessed that in September 2023, Sofiyat approached him to assist in selling her palm oil, which led to his initial advances towards her. After she declined his romantic overtures due to being married, Babalola sought the help of a herbalist who provided him with charms to control her.
The victim corroborated the account, stating that she initially sought Babalola’s assistance in selling palm oil, but rejected his advances. Babalola then lured her to Modakeke, where he confiscated her phone, replaced the SIM card, and confined her to his residence for three weeks, during which he subjected her to sexual coercion.
Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), affirmed that Babalola employed a magic ring to manipulate the victim. Babalola has since been handed over to the Department of State Services for further investigation and prosecution.
The suspect’s despicable actions have sparked outrage and raised concerns about the prevalence of such heinous acts in society.
