Kano State Government Inaugurates Panels to Investigate Alleged Mismanagement, Violence, and Missing Persons During Ganduje’s Tenure

The Kano State government has taken a significant step by inaugurating two judicial commissions of inquiry aimed at investigating various alleged wrongdoings that occurred between 2015 and 2023, during Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure as Governor. These inquiries will focus on cases involving the misappropriation of public assets, political violence, and instances of missing persons.

Governor Abba Yusuf, who formally initiated these committees on Thursday, April 4, emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice. He underscored that addressing the mismanagement of public resources was a key promise of his administration. Yusuf also highlighted his commitment to uncovering and prosecuting individuals involved in political violence, which he views as a significant threat to democracy.

Governor Yusuf stated, “Political violence undermines democratic principles, resulting in loss of life, property, and eroding public trust. The incidents of political violence, particularly in 2023, cannot be ignored. Our aim is to prevent such occurrences in the future.”

The first commission, led by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, has been tasked with investigating cases of political violence and missing persons spanning from 2015 to 2023. The governor expects this commission to identify those responsible, including any underlying causes, sponsors, and associated violence during the stated periods.
