Pastor In Kwara State Arrested By EFCC For Scamming Church Member Out Of N3.9m

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Adeniyi James, the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State, on allegations of defrauding a church member of N3,980,000.

According to a statement by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, the victim, Oluwole Babarinsa, lodged a complaint with the commission, claiming that James had singled him out during a church service in 2021, asserting he had received a divine revelation about Babarinsa’s imminent journey abroad.

In the account provided, Babarinsa stated that James, during the purported revelation, inquired about his desired destination, to which Babarinsa responded with “Canada.” Subsequently, an agreement was allegedly reached to discuss further arrangements for the trip. Babarinsa claimed James then proposed assistance through a friend in Lagos, requiring payments of N1.7 million for facilitation and N2.5 million for flight tickets and travel documents.

To meet these demands, Babarinsa purportedly resorted to selling off some of his possessions and obtaining loans, accumulating a total of N3,980,000, which he handed over to James in anticipation of a swift relocation to Canada. However, despite the passage of time with no progress, Babarinsa began to question the legitimacy of James’s vision, leading him to request a refund of his money.

Despite Babarinsa’s persistent efforts to reclaim his funds, James allegedly failed to comply, prompting the intervention of the EFCC. The commission stated its intention to prosecute James in court once investigations are concluded.
