Tragic Accident Claims Life Of Delta Corp Member: NYSC Issues Travel Advisory....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has issued a stern warning to corps members serving across Nigeria, emphasizing the need for authorization before embarking on any journey.

This caution follows a tragic incident involving the loss of Ige Adedayo, a corps member serving in Delta State, who died in a solo accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at Ago Adura, Itori, on Saturday.

Eddy Megwa, the NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, confirmed Adedayo’s status as a serving corps member in Delta State. He revealed that Adedayo was assigned to Warri for his primary assignment but had ventured to Ogun State without prior approval from NYSC authorities in Delta.

Megwa reiterated that the Director-General of NYSC has consistently advised corps members against undertaking journeys outside their state of service without proper permission.

“He was assigned to Warri for his Place of Primary Assignment, but instead of reporting there, he traveled to Ogun State where he was involved in a fatal accident,” Megwa stated. “We urge corps members not to embark on unnecessary journeys without NYSC management approval. The NYSC Director-General consistently emphasizes this, and coordinators are available to assist with any issues.”

Expressing condolences to Adedayo’s family, Megwa described his demise as a tragic loss, not just to his family but also to NYSC and the nation at large.

“The passing of this promising young man is a sorrowful event. The NYSC community in Ogun State has extended its support to his family, and we join them in mourning his loss,” Megwa expressed.

Adedayo, reportedly among the corps members who recently completed orientation and likely returned home for Easter break, hailed from Ogun State and was a graduate of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, close to the accident site.

The accident, which occurred around 6:55 am on Saturday, involved a Mercedes-Benz with registration number JJJ168JF. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, eyewitnesses indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to drowsiness, resulting in the tragic crash.

The NYSC’s warning underscores the importance of adhering to travel guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of all corps members during their service year.
