The Federal Government has announced that a toll fee averaging N3,000 per gate will be implemented upon completion of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road. Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television. Umahi clarified that the average toll fee was calculated based on an estimated 50,000 vehicles passing through the toll points daily. He explained that the N3,000 average cost was determined considering that smaller cars might pay around N1,500 while larger trucks could pay up to N5,000.

Umahi defended the projected cost, stating that it would enable the government to recoup its investment within a 15-year period. Addressing concerns about the road’s budget, the minister assured the public of security measures at the toll gates and the provision of amenities such as filling stations and restaurants. Additionally, Umahi mentioned plans to install CCTV cameras along the route to enhance security and instill confidence in road users.
