Court Grants Emefiele N50 Million Bail Amidst Controversy....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a recent development at the Ikeja Special Offences Court, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail in the amount of N50 million. This decision comes amidst allegations of abuse of office and fraud amounting to $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of Emefiele’s bail, requiring two sureties to stand in the same sum. Notably, these sureties must be actively employed and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Additionally, they are mandated to provide proper identification and be registered within the Lagos State Bail Management System.
The judge expressed contentment with the bail conditions previously set for Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoil, who faces separate charges before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat at a Yaba High Court. However, Oshodi emphasized the necessity of transferring the bail documents to the special offences court and ensuring registration within the Lagos State Bail Management System.
It’s worth recalling that on April 8, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Emefiele on a 23-count charge, encompassing allegations of abuse of office, gratification acceptance, corrupt demands, fraudulent property receipt, and conferring corrupt advantage. Meanwhile, his co-defendant faced a three-count charge related to the acceptance of gifts by agents. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
