Edo Government Demolishes Shaibu’s Residence Security Post
The Edo State government carried out the demolition of the security post at the former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu’s residence on Sunday. This action was undertaken by officials of the Edo State Network and members of the Public Works Volunteers in the Government Reservation Area, Benin.

The demolition forms part of the consequences Shaibu faced post-removal from office, with the Assembly’s decision based on findings from a seven-man panel appointed by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.

Governor Godwin Obaseki appointed Marvellous Omobayo as the new deputy governor, further cementing Shaibu’s exit from the state’s executive.

Despite Shaibu’s legal challenge against his impeachment, alleging persecution for his gubernatorial aspirations, the security post adjacent to a golf course and sharing a fence with his residence was demolished. This post had served as a temporary shelter and checkpoint for his security details.

A senior member of one of the agencies involved, speaking anonymously to Punch, justified the demolition, citing Shaibu’s status as a private citizen no longer entitled to such official privileges.

Responding to inquiries, the state Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Eta Uzamere, clarified that the demolition was unrelated to his ministry.

An aide to Shaibu expressed dismay over the demolition, highlighting that the security outpost was not government-built but Shaibu’s own construction, criticizing the state government’s actions as unjust.
