The occasion, centered on evaluating the efficacy of the National Ageing Policy, facilitated an extensive dialogue on the imperative of implementing the national senior citizens Act nationwide. Drawing insights from discussions with 36 commissioners for social welfare, the consensus was clear: governmental efforts must evolve beyond temporary ‘palliative’ measures to ensure lasting impact on the lives of elderly citizens.
Guided by Dr. (Mrs.) Emem Omokaro, the Director-General of NSCC, participants emphasized the urgency of substantive action. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, represented by its Permanent Secretary, reinforced its support for initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being and dignity of senior citizens.
