Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, along with Commander 63 Brigade Brig. Gen. Unachukwu Ugochukwu and other government officials, visited Okuama to address the recent crisis. He emphasized that innocent citizens should not bear the brunt of events they had no part in.

Speaking at Okuama, Governor Oborevwori affirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security, especially in the aftermath of the tragic killing of 17 officers and soldiers on March 14. He underscored the unexpected nature of the incident, which violated the peace and security that had been maintained in the region since the previous year.

The governor assured that due process was being followed in handling the situation, including the burial of the victims and the release of the detained king. He reiterated President’s assurance that innocent individuals would not face persecution. Governor Oborevwori emphasized the collaboration between the government and the military to reintegrate innocent members of the community who fled back into Okuama.

Acknowledging the significant loss suffered by the community, Governor Oborevwori stressed the importance of cooperation and adherence to due process in resolving the dispute. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Chief of Defence Staff for their support and commitment to protecting innocent civilians.

Governor Oborevwori reassured the people of Okuama that efforts were underway to facilitate their return home, emphasizing that only those directly involved in the incident were being pursued by the military. He urged residents not to flee their community, as measures were in place to ensure their safety and eventual return.
