Communal Clashes: Nigerian Govt Urged To Establish Army Barracks In Okuama....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Okoloba Federated Community in Delta is urging the Federal Government to consider establishing an army barracks in Okuama Town, an adjacent community, as a proactive measure to address the persistent issue of communal clashes and violence in the region.
The call for this strategic move comes in the wake of a tragic incident on March 14, where 17 military personnel from the 181 Amphibious Battalion lost their lives in Okuama during a communal clash. Clement Koki, Chairman of the Okoloba Federated Community, emphasized the necessity of preventing further bloodshed and loss of lives by setting up a permanent military presence in the area.
Okuama, situated amidst two Ijaw communities, Akugbena and Okoloba, within the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta, has been a hotspot for conflicts. Koki expressed solidarity with neighboring communities, acknowledging the temporary disruptions caused by heightened security measures implemented by the military.
By establishing an army barracks in Okuama, Koki believes that the root causes of conflicts can be addressed more effectively, leading to a significant reduction or elimination of violence and bloodshed in the region. This proactive measure aims to promote lasting peace and stability in the area, sparing communities from the devastating consequences of communal clashes.
