In a recent incident that has ignited discussions across social media platforms, Jessica Okah, a Nigerian bride, recounted her experience of being instructed to remove her eyelashes by her pastor during her church wedding ceremony. According to a report by Punch, Jessica’s narrative on TikTok has prompted reflections on the enforcement of personal preferences and standards of beauty within religious rites.

Jessica disclosed that the pastor had expressed his disapproval of her wearing eyelashes prior to the wedding day. Despite this prior indication, Jessica confessed to having overlooked the pastor’s request and assumed it would not pose a problem on her special day.

However, to her astonishment, the issue resurfaced just before the commencement of the ceremony. “Imagine your pastor instructing you to remove your eyelashes in the midst of your wedding ceremony? It felt surreal, like a scene from a movie unfolding in reality,” she shared.

“Once my husband’s family had given their approval, my pastor suddenly remembered that he had advised me the day before not to wear eyelashes to the wedding ceremony. Honestly, it didn’t bother me much, but I genuinely forgot,” Jessica explained.
