Urgent Warning From Uzodinma: Retire Now Or Risk Punishment, Civil Servants Told
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has taken decisive action by halting the approval process for service extension requests across all civil service categories, particularly targeting Directors and Permanent Secretaries. This move, as revealed by the Secretary to the State Government, Cosmas Iwu, aims to enforce adherence to existing retirement laws among civil servants.
Governor Uzodinma has emphasized the importance of compliance with retirement regulations, warning of consequences for those who fail to retire as scheduled. Additionally, he has swiftly implemented the retirement of the Head of Service, Raymond Ucheoma, effectively immediately.
The decision to retire Ucheoma comes amid growing dissatisfaction regarding his prolonged tenure beyond the official retirement age. His departure paves the way for the appointment of the most senior director or permanent secretary within his department.
In a statement, the Governor underscored the necessity of addressing labor concerns and ensuring smooth career advancement within the civil service. He reiterated the suspension of service extension approvals and urged civil servants to adhere strictly to retirement guidelines. Furthermore, he outlined repercussions for any individual failing to comply with the directive, emphasizing the potential requirement for reimbursement of salary overpayments during the extended period of service.
