Workers have besieged multiple offices of electricity distribution companies to protest against the increase in Band A tariffs.
Under the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, the workers gathered at the offices of the DisCos on Monday, halting regular operations for the day.
In Lagos, protesters congregated at the corporate headquarters of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, demanding a rollback of the Band A tariff.
Similarly, in Oyo, demonstrators targeted the office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, staging a picket.
Police presence was noted at these locations to prevent any potential disturbances.
The NLC and TUC issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to reverse the adjusted tariff.
Contrarily, the Federal Government argued against tariff reversal, cautioning that it could destabilize the power sector, urging citizens to endure the temporary inconvenience.
Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund has recommended to the Federal Government the removal of electricity subsidies in other bands to alleviate economic strain.
