From information reaching our news desk, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, have been actively courting PDP chieftains across the state. This strategic poaching has severely undermined the PDP’s confidence and stability.
Rumors are circulating that Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director General of the PDP gubernatorial campaign, is considering pulling out. New intelligence indicates that Iduoriyekemwen anticipates an imminent defeat in the general elections. His concerns are driven by the ongoing resignations from the party’s leadership and the backlash from Edo South residents over the prolonged conflict between the state government and traditional institutions.
Iduoriyekemwen fears that his association with the beleaguered party could tarnish his political career, especially given the growing disenchantment among Edo South citizens. This crisis, allegedly orchestrated by the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, threatens to send Iduoriyekemwen into political oblivion.
There are speculations that Iduoriyekemwen might follow in the footsteps of PDP Board of Trustees member Charles Idahosa, who recently resigned and defected to the APC. Idahosa’s departure dealt a significant blow to the PDP, as he was a key player in Obasekiās administration. His defection is a major coup for the APC, bringing with it insider knowledge of Obasekiās strategic maneuvers.
Moreover, the PDPās woes are compounded by the alarming endorsements of Senator Monday Okpebholo from Edo Central by major Esan groups and organizations. This wave of support for Okpebholo has sent shockwaves through Asue Ighodaloās campaign, prompting speculation that his team may seek to distance itself from Obasekiās administration and its perceived shortcomings.
As the political drama unfolds, all eyes are on whether the Asue Ighodalo campaign will sever ties with Obasekiās administration to salvage its chances. The coming days and weeks will reveal if Ighodalo can navigate these turbulent waters and emerge unscathed.
What do you think about these developments? Will Ighodalo’s campaign break free from Obaseki’s perceived stronghold? Share your thoughts in the comments.
