The Labour Party (LP) has stated that the visit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to National Chairman Julius Abure signifies that both leaders are united in their efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members. This was conveyed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Wednesday in Abuja, in response to an earlier statement by Yunusa Tanko, media aide to the Obi Presidential Campaign Council.
Ifoh criticized Tanko for misrepresenting the intent of Obi’s visit to Abure and the national leadership. He emphasized that the party values Obi’s visit and sees it as a positive development for the party.
Ifoh expressed optimism that the ongoing reconciliatory efforts will solidify and transform into a strong political force capable of liberating Nigerians from the poor governance of the APC.
The statement reads: “The leadership of the Labour Party has noted a statement from the spokesperson of our National Leader, Peter Obi, titled ‘Obi visits to LP, Reconciliatory, not endorsement,’ by Dr. Tanko Yinusa, which misinterprets the purpose of Obi’s visit to the party leadership.
“As a party, we are pleased that our leader has chosen to reconcile all aggrieved members and stakeholders. This noble step by Mr. Obi aligns with the call made by our National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, during his maiden press conference last week titled ‘Triumphant Resumption of Abure-led NWC,’ where he urged all factions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to put aside differences and join the rebuilding process.
“Peter Obi’s visit and his speech at the FCT solidarity rally have been widely interpreted as an endorsement of Abure’s leadership, marking his first visit since the successful National Convention of the party in March
