Tinubu Administration Initiates Review Of Airport Concession Agreements

The Bola Tinubu-led federal government has initiated a review of the airports concession process to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced this during a ministerial press briefing in Abuja on Monday, marking President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.
Keyamo stated that the President has approved the review to elevate the major airports to international standards. The ministry is also developing a comprehensive master plan for these airports.
He said, “Bureaucracy cannot effectively manage public infrastructure. They need to be operated like private businesses. This review aims to enhance transparency and deliver world-class infrastructure. We will fully concession the airports and run them as private entities. The president has directed us to pursue the best outcomes.”
In August 2021, the federal government initiated the bidding process for the concession of four major international airport terminals: Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, and Port Harcourt International Airport. The concession period was set between 20-30 years.
