The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources began clearing shanties and illegal activities beneath the Ijora Bridge on Monday. This action was announced by the ministry’s commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on X.com.

Wahab stated, “The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources #LasgMOE has commenced the removal of shanties and illegal business activities under the Ijora Bridge.” According to PUNCH, Wahab mentioned that illegal occupants were given a 23-hour notice to vacate on Saturday.

In February, the state government had demolished and removed illegal shanties under the Ijora Bridge after issuing a five-day quit notice. The government plans to transform the area into a recreational space.

In a related incident, the Lagos State Government discovered another illegal settlement under the Osborne Bridge in Ikoyi. Commissioner Wahab announced this on Thursday, May 2, along with videos on his X handle. The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESCO), also known as KAI, has started clearing the illegal settlement immediately.
