An Enugu State High Court, under the direction of Justice C.I Nwobodo, has issued a warning of potential imprisonment for Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, over alleged contempt of court. The threat stems from purported disobedience to a court order, as indicated in a Form Order 48 dated May 23, 2024. Filed by Mrs. Theresa Nnulika Chuba through her Attorney, Mr. Oboli Fred Esq., the order demands compliance with directives related to two suits, E/879/2022 and E/301/2024, failing which the Commissioner risks contempt charges.
The dispute revolves around a land matter, where the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, prompting alleged interference by individuals seeking to prevent execution of the court’s decision. The contempt proceedings aim to halt further harassment and intimidation of the plaintiffs by the police. As of now, the police commissioner has yet to respond to the summons.
