Naija News reports that despite the Supreme Court’s declaration of Njoku as the authentic National Chairman, INEC allegedly failed to comply with the court directive.
Expressing his concerns to reporters at the Court of Appeal premises, where he and other party leaders submitted a petition over the weekend, Okorie emphasized, “In a sane country, Professor Mahmood Yakubu would not preside over the highest democratic institution in the land, having been found guilty of contempt of court since November last year.”
“The fact that the Court of Appeal suspended the sentencing does not erase his guilt. Arresting the sentencing is another surprise because once a judgment is delivered, the higher court should allow the lower court to execute its duty.”
Okorie continued, “The constitution is explicit on this matter. I urge Mahmood to vacate his office. His continued presence is a disgrace to the nation. It is scandalous for a contemnor to hold the position of Chairman of Nigeria’s highest democratic institution
