The initiative to establish the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps began with 13 key local government areas: Binji, Gada, Goronyo, Gudu Gwadabawa, Illela, Isa, Kebbe, Rabbah, Sabon Birni, Tangaza, Tureta, and Wurno.
Additionally, the state government has achieved several milestones in the past year under Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s leadership, including the procurement and distribution of 72 vehicles comprising Toyota Hilux and Buffalo models to bolster security operations across the state. Other accomplishments highlighted include prompt logistical support payments to security agencies, resulting in the successful rescue of over 250 individuals from bandits.
Furthermore, efforts have been made to combat illicit activities through targeted raids and aerial surveillance by the Nigerian Air Force in troubled areas. Despite these achievements, Col. Usman emphasized that the administration has only completed a quarter of its security agenda, reiterating the governor’s steadfast commitment to Sokoto State’s development.
In a related development in March 2024, Governor Aliyu formally handed over vehicles acquired earlier to their designated drivers, following their unveiling during the 100-day celebration at the Gingiya Memorial Stadium in Sokoto, where they were inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
