The image of a broad, well-laid road, devoid of congestion, serves as a powerful metaphor for governance done with foresight. This is the impression that Engineer Abubakar Momoh FNSE, Minister of Regional Development, has cultivated in public office.
Since assuming office, Momoh has consistently prioritized equitable growth over selective advancement, distributing attention, infrastructure, and institutional focus across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Under Momoh’s leadership, the Ministry of Regional Development has implemented several initiatives to promote regional development and balance in Nigeria. One notable initiative is the completion of 27.5 km Ogbia-Nembe Road with multiple bridges (Bayelsa State)
1×15 MVA 33/11 KV electricity injection substation in Amufi, Edo State.
* 45 km double-circuit 33 KV feeder line from Omotosho to Okitipupa in Ondo State and numerous others.
The minister has also invested in water supply projects, including the installation of motorized boreholes and overhead tanks, to provide clean water to communities in need.
In addition, Momoh has launched initiatives to enhance economic empowerment and youth development. For instance, the ministry has distributed agricultural equipment and resources to farmers in rural areas, boosting productivity and economic independence.
The minister has also partnered with state governments to provide skills training programs, grants, and entrepreneurship opportunities to empower young people.
Momoh’s approach to regional development has been collaborative, working closely with governors and other stakeholders to identify and address development gaps.
He has engaged with governors to develop and implement projects that promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the well-being of citizens. This approach has yielded positive results.
The impact of Momoh’s initiatives can be seen in the lives of ordinary Nigerians, particularly in rural areas. In the North-East, the ministry has provided humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. In the Niger Delta, the minister has invested in infrastructure development, including roads and bridges, to improve connectivity and facilitate economic activity.
Momoh’s approach to regional development is characterized by a commitment to balance and equity. He has ensured that development initiatives are spread across the six geopolitical zones, promoting economic growth and development in all regions. This approach has helped to reduce regional disparities and promote national cohesion.
