ADC Has No Zoning Rule” — Atiku Speaks, Sidesteps 2027 Presidency Talk
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that zoning is not provided for in the constitution of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that the party has no arrangement to rotate or zone its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made the remark during a courtesy visit to former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.
He explained that the principle of zoning is not entrenched in the ADC’s constitution, noting that among Nigeria’s major political parties, only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally recognises zoning in its foundational documents.
According to him, the ADC runs a different system and does not constitutionally impose rotational presidency or zoning for elective positions.
While clarifying the party’s stance on zoning, Atiku declined to state whether he intends to contest the 2027 presidential election on the ADC platform. The former presidential candidate neither confirmed nor dismissed the possibility, leaving room for continued political speculation.
He also commented on the ongoing national conversation surrounding electronic transmission of election results, an issue that has sparked widespread debate following recent amendments to the Electoral Act.
