Prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate who recently joined the ADC, are reportedly eyeing the party’s top position. While Atiku’s camp has remained tight-lipped about his intentions, supporters of Obi have emphasized that the former Anambra State governor will not play a secondary role.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stressed that no decisions have yet been made regarding the party’s standard-bearer, adding that all aspirants remain eligible.

Abdullahi explained that the party would first attempt to reach a consensus in selecting its candidate. However, if a consensus cannot be achieved, the party will hold a fully competitive, open, and transparent primary.

He said, “No discussion is ongoing right now about who will be the standard-bearer or who will be running mate to whom. Every issue regarding our 2027 ticket remains unresolved.

“When the time comes, we will take a position. Our first approach will be to foster a measure of consensus to build a winning coalition. But if that fails, we will proceed to a competitive primary—free, open, and transparent—so every Nigerian can witness the ADC as a party that follows its rules, practices transparency, and respects its own laws and regulations.”
