AFCON Drama Deepens: Shehu Sani Condemns CAF’s Sh*cking Title Reversal

Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has strongly criticised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over its decision to withdraw Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and award it to Morocco.

CAF’s Appeal Board ruled on Tuesday that Senegal forfeited the final after their players briefly walked off the pitch in protest during a tense moment in the match.

As a result, Morocco were awarded a 3–0 victory, overturning Senegal’s 1–0 win recorded on the field.

The controversy began when the referee awarded Morocco a disputed penalty. In response, Senegalese players, visibly frustrated and encouraged by their coach, temporarily left the pitch. Captain Sadio Mané remained behind and later persuaded his teammates to return and complete the match.

Morocco missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to secure victory — a result that has now been nullified.

Reacting on social media platform X, Sani condemned CAF’s decision, describing it as unfair and setting a troubling precedent for African football.

He argued that Senegal had earned the title through their performance on the pitch and questioned the justification for overturning the result after the match had been completed.

Sani further suggested that the punishment was excessive, noting that the team returned to finish the game despite the earlier protest.

His comments reflect broader concerns among critics, who have questioned both the timing of CAF’s ruling and its potential impact on the credibility and integrity of the competition.
