The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has clarified why the guild cannot sue actress Adanma Luke over the tragic death of actor Junior Pope. Although the AGN suspended Luke after the incident, Rollas revealed in an interview with Arise TV that only Junior Pope’s direct family or spouse has the legal standing to sue.

“In the course of consulting with our legal adviser, it was made clear that based on the contract Junior Pope signed with the producer, the AGN does not have the locus to sue,” Rollas explained.

He also shed light on internal guild matters, noting that structural changes are being implemented to better protect actors. Rollas emphasized the need for actor licensing and revealed that Junior Pope, despite his prominence, was not a dues-paying member of the guild at the time of his death.

The AGN is reportedly drawing lessons from international practices, aiming to create stronger protections and structures for its members.
