Akpabio Reveals He Thrives On Opposition Backlash To His Legislation
Godswill Akpabio has stated that he takes opposition to a law as confirmation that he has made the right decision.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He made the remarks while speaking at a reception in Uyo held in honour of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
Akpabio asserted that opposition parties in Nigeria would remain in disarray until the 2027 general elections.
“Each time we pass a law and the opposition frowns, I get excited because it shows we’ve made the right law,” he said.
He suggested that the opposition’s decision to start political activities ahead of the timeline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for August 2026 reflects internal confusion within their ranks.
“While the ruling party moves across Nigeria consulting and campaigning, many opposition groups are still trying to organise themselves. They haven’t even completed registration, and they will continue in confusion until the 2027 election is over. Instead of putting their houses in order, they are breaking up,” he added.
Akpabio also criticised divisions within opposition parties, highlighting internal leadership disputes.
“Take the Labour Party, for instance. They once had millions of votes, but now they can barely reach a hundred thousand because the party is distressed. They have fragmented leadership across the North, South, East, and West.
“The PDP, which used to be united, now struggles with multiple offices in Abuja and several secretaries. Who would even sign their forms?” he said.
