The message was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, Tinubu praised Governor Yusuf for his integrity, simplicity, humility, and dedication to public service, noting that these qualities are reflected in his governance of Kano State.
Yusuf, who emerged as Kano governor in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport between 2011 and 2015 under the administration of former governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
The President noted that Yusuf’s leadership in Kano—long regarded as a stronghold of progressive politics in Northern Nigeria—aligns with the legacy of grassroots development and advocacy for the Talakawa championed by the late Mallam Aminu Kano.
According to Tinubu, Yusuf’s experience in managing key ministries during his time as commissioner helped prepare him for the infrastructural reforms currently underway in the state.
“He has initiated extensive urban renewal projects, constructed bridges and expanded road networks, including the development of five-kilometre roads across each local government area,” the President stated.
Tinubu also commended Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector, saying it has led to noticeable improvements in Kano students’ performance in NECO examinations.
The President concluded by wishing the governor good health, long life, and continued success in delivering transformative leadership to the people of Kano State.
Meanwhile, speculations have continued to circulate that Governor Yusuf may be considering a move from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
