APC Chairman Yilwatda Breaks Silence On Replacing Shettima As Tinubu’s Running Mate
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has denied claims that he has been chosen as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Channels Television, Yilwatda described the reports as false and stressed that the party has no plans to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima. He dismissed the speculation as “raising dust where there is no dust at all,” attributing it largely to opposition propaganda.
“People are trying to raise dust where there is no dust at all. Most of the speculation comes from the opposition,” he said. When asked about the Tinubu/Shettima ticket, Yilwatda responded, “Nobody is discussing the issue of the vice president at this time.”
On another matter, Yilwatda clarified that the ongoing feud between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike, is outside his jurisdiction. He explained that, since Wike belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Fubara is in the APC, he cannot intervene.
“When it comes to the issue between Wike and Fubara, it’s not within my purview as the national chairman of APC. Wike is in PDP, Fubara is in APC,” he said.
He added that the impeachment issue in Rivers State concerns only APC members of the State House of Assembly and falls under the party’s internal mechanisms.
“The issue of impeachment is not about Wike now; it concerns APC House of Assembly members. That is something I can discuss. It’s an internal matter, and we have mechanisms within APC to resolve such issues,” Yilwatda noted.
He emphasised the importance of discretion and maturity in handling internal party matters, adding, “We don’t put these discussions in the public. Issues can be resolved through in-house activities that require maturity to address. Wike is not a problem in APC.”
