APC Races Ahead! Early Nyanya Results Show Strong Lead in FCT Poll

Early results from Nyanya Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) taking an early lead, despite a notably low voter turnout.

At Polling Unit 016, the APC secured 13 votes in the chairmanship race, ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 1 vote, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 2 votes, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 5 votes, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 1 vote.

In the councillorship contest at the same unit, APC recorded 11 votes, PDP 1, SDP 0, ADC 4, and APGA 1. Out of 754 registered voters, only 22 were accredited to vote.

At Polling Unit 091, APC garnered 20 votes in the chairmanship election, while PDP and ADC each received one vote. BOOT and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also recorded one vote apiece.

For councillorship at that unit, APC scored 11 votes, PDP 12, and BOOT 1. Of the 428 registered voters, just 24 were accredited.

Meanwhile, in Mpape and Dutse Alhaji Ward of Bwari Area Council, several voters described the voting process as orderly and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for improved logistics.

Speaking at Polling Unit 077 in Mpape, Dutse Alhaji Ward, rights activist and rector Dr. Charles Nwodo urged voters to remain vigilant and safeguard their ballots.

“The truth is, votes will count if we, the voters, insist they count. After casting our votes, we should remain at the polling units, ensure the votes are counted in our presence, and document the results,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of electoral officials, describing the process as smooth and commendable.

“From what I’m seeing here, INEC has done its best in this district. Everything is moving smoothly, and the officials are performing their duties effectively,” he added.

On result transmission, Nwodo emphasised the importance of transparency and proper documentation.

“Electronic transmission is the best approach. Whatever is counted at the polling unit should be recorded in our presence. We should take pictures, share them, and keep proper records,” he advised.

He further noted that strengthening key institutions, especially the judiciary, would boost public trust in the electoral system.

INEC is conducting elections to fill six area council chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions across 2,822 polling units, with over 1.6 million registered voters in the FCT. As of Saturday afternoon, collation of results was still ongoing in several locations.
