The Kogi State government has announced the liberation of six additional students who were abducted from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, Okene. These students fell victim to suspected bandits who raided the school premises on May 9th. This development follows the successful rescue of fourteen students by the state government.
Providing an update on May 14th, Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, disclosed the recent liberation of six more students. He stated, “Our data indicates that four students are still missing. However, a fierce confrontation between security forces and the abductors compelled the latter to yield to superior firepower, resulting in the abandonment of the kidnapped students. Some of the perpetrators managed to flee with severe injuries.”
The Commissioner further confirmed that the families of the six recently rescued students have verified their safe return home.
