Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged Igbo communities worldwide to abandon calls for a separate Biafran nation, arguing that the concerns that once fueled the agitation have now been addressed by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Umahi made the appeal on Saturday during an inspection of ongoing projects along the Enugu–Anambra Road.

He maintained that the aspirations of Ndigbo have been achieved not through secession but through meaningful inclusion and integration within the Nigerian state.

According to the minister, the original push for Biafran secession stemmed from years of neglect, marginalisation, and limited representation at the federal level. However, he said this situation has significantly changed under the current administration.

“When people are fully integrated, respected, and empowered within the national framework, the goals once pursued through agitation are realised through cooperation,” Umahi said.

He noted that President Tinubu has intentionally promoted the inclusion of the South-East in national development, pointing to increased appointments, policy participation, and infrastructure investments in the region.

“The narrative has changed dramatically. The doors of national development have been opened to the South-East, with appointments, policy input, and infrastructure priorities now reflecting true federal balance,” he added.

Umahi cited his role as Minister of Works, along with other strategic positions occupied by Igbo appointees, as evidence that the South-East has received its fair share of national appointments.

“Every sector now shows clear Igbo presence. The emergence of Igbo sons and daughters in key positions underscores this renewed inclusion,” he said.

He also highlighted the ongoing execution of major infrastructure projects across the five South-East states, many of which were previously considered unrealistic.

According to Umahi, these developments explain why governors such as Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and other regional leaders have aligned with the APC-led Federal Government.

“Biafra was never about breaking Nigeria; it was about being recognised within Nigeria,” Umahi said.

“Through inclusion, equity, and tangible development, Ndigbo are no longer bystanders in the Nigerian project but active contributors to its future. When justice prevails, agitation fades.”
