The development was first reported on Thursday by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via social media.
Romano wrote: “BREAKING: Chelsea and Enzo Maresca agree to part company with immediate effect. It’s OVER. Official statement to follow, but this comes after growing tension over the past 24–48 hours. Chelsea will now begin the process of appointing a new manager.”
Earlier, Romano had indicated that Chelsea and Maresca were prepared to separate ahead of the club’s match against Manchester City, citing a deteriorating relationship and noting that formal steps to finalize the split were expected soon.
Chelsea later confirmed that Maresca had left the club by mutual consent. In a statement, the club said:
“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. These achievements remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe that a change gives the team the best chance to get the season back on track.
