Breaking: Court Sets Trial Date For Ganduje Over Alleged Fund Diversion
A Kano State High Court has scheduled April 15 for the hearing of all pending applications in the ongoing trial of former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and other defendants over alleged misappropriation of public funds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ganduje is standing trial alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, on an 11-count charge involving bribery, conspiracy, and the diversion of public funds totaling billions of naira.
Other defendants in the case include Abubakar Bawuro, Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.
During proceedings, the prosecution, represented by Victor Oni, informed the court that it was ready to continue the trial. Oni added that the prosecution had filed a motion on notice dated November 24, 2025, seeking the court’s approval to submit additional evidence against the defendants.
Counsel for the first and second defendants, Mrs. Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, also stated that the defence was prepared to proceed. She noted that the defence had filed a motion on notice dated July 17, 2025, requesting a stay of proceedings.
Similarly, counsel to the third and seventh defendants, Mr. Adekunle Taiye-Falola, indicated readiness and referenced a motion on notice dated May 23, 2025. Counsel to the fifth defendant, Mr. Muhammad Shehu, said he had filed an affidavit notifying the court of an application for a stay of proceedings before the Court of Appeal.
Counsel to the sixth defendant, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, revealed that he had filed a preliminary objection and an application for an extension of time to respond to points of law, dated February 2, and requested a hearing date for his application.
Counsel to the eighth defendant, Faruk Asekome, also confirmed his readiness to proceed.
After hearing from all parties, the trial judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, adjourned the case until April 15 for the hearing of preliminary objections and all pending applications, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
