The decision was announced on Wednesday during the 53rd State Executive Council meeting, where the governor formally communicated the development to members.

Despite the decision, the governor is expected to constitute a new Executive Council soon to ensure continuity in governance and prevent any disruption to ongoing government projects.

In a related development, former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma has resigned from the All Progressives Congress in Edo State.

Agbonayinma announced his resignation during a press briefing in Benin City on Wednesday, stating that it takes immediate effect.

The former lawmaker, who is seeking a return to the National Assembly, said he will soon disclose the political party under which he intends to contest in the next general election.

He cited internal party issues, including alleged lack of recognition of his leadership in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, marginalisation of Edo South in political appointments, and undemocratic practices.

Agbonayinma, who previously served as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, said he could no longer remain in a party he believes has strayed from democratic principles.
