Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State have agreed to adopt the direct primary method for selecting the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, in a bid to promote inclusiveness and strengthen unity within the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was reached during a high-level meeting attended by governorship aspirants, members of the National Assembly, and other key party figures.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the move reflects the collective position of party members and aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen internal democracy at the national level.

He explained that the direct primary system would allow all registered party members to participate in choosing the party’s candidate.

According to him, the majority of stakeholders supported the approach, which is also in line with the stance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on expanding democratic participation within political parties.

Sule assured aspirants and party supporters that the primary election would be conducted in a transparent and credible manner, in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

On the issue of zoning, the governor stated that the governorship position should be allocated to the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone to ensure fairness and balance.

He noted that the decision was guided by the need to promote inclusiveness and give all parts of the state a sense of belonging, particularly as the zone has not produced a governor in about two decades.

Sule commended party members for their cooperation and maturity during the discussions, expressing confidence that the APC would emerge stronger and well-positioned for victory in the 2027 general elections.
