Breaking: Navy Investigates Personnel Clash With Soldiers During Tinubu’s Bayelsa Engagement

The Nigerian Navy has taken disciplinary action by arresting personnel involved in a public confrontation with fellow military officers in Bayelsa State during the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday.
A viral video circulating on social media showed a driver of a Hilux vehicle marked “Naval Police” stepping out to exchange words with another driver. Moments later, after he returned to his vehicle, another armed driver approached and struck him, triggering a physical altercation.
The situation quickly escalated into a wider brawl, with personnel from both sides engaging in a free-for-all while shocked civilians looked on.
The incident reportedly occurred as the President was departing an official event during his visit to Bayelsa State, though the exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear.
In response, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abi Folorunso, confirmed in a post on his X handle that the personnel involved have been taken into custody and are currently facing disciplinary procedures in line with military regulations.
He stated that the affected officers are being processed under appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures in accordance with existing military rules.
