In a collaborative effort between the Katsina State Government and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, grants totaling N4.4 billion are set to be disbursed to 100 secondary schools in the state. The allocation, announced during an event at GSSS Doro in Bindawa Local Government Area, aims to enhance the educational landscape through the renovation of an additional 100 junior and senior secondary schools as part of the ‘Large Grant – Phase II initiative.

Governor Dikko Radda affirmed his administration’s dedication to improving educational infrastructure, ensuring students have access to conducive learning environments. Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, Isah Miqdad, conveyed the governor’s commitment to achieving excellence in education and providing well-equipped classrooms to foster creativity.

The Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Hadiza Yaradua, explained that the N44 million allocated to each school seeks to address various challenges, including dilapidated structures, insufficient classroom furniture, and a lack of learning materials. This marks the fourth round of disbursements, following small grants to 578 schools, large grant phase I to 188 schools, and mega grants to 15 schools. The current phase focuses on upgrading school infrastructure, encompassing renovations to classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and administrative blocks.

Dr. Mustapha Shehu, the state coordinator of AGILE, emphasized the significance of partnerships in achieving sustainable educational development. The collaboration between the Katsina government and AGILE prioritizes improving education for all, particularly addressing the needs of adolescent girls. The AGILE project has already contributed to the construction of approximately 150 new secondary schools and the recruitment and training of over 2,000 teachers within a span of two years.

The event saw attendance from various dignitaries, including the Chairman of Bindawa LGA, the District Head of Bindawa, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders invested in advancing education in Katsina State.
