Breaking: PDP Leaders Convene Urgent NEC Meeting To Heal Internal Rifts

The meeting, which is the third of its kind this week, is being led by the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee alongside the Board of Trustees headed by Adolphus Wabara. Discussions are centred on resolving lingering disputes within the party, especially issues related to the proposed national convention put forward by the Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee.

Party leaders say reconciliation between the opposing factions remains the main focus of the talks. During a similar meeting on Wednesday, Turaki noted that his faction remains open to dialogue and that progress has been made in efforts to address the crisis.

The Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee, reportedly supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has also indicated willingness to reconcile, but insists that the planned national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 must proceed as part of the peace process.

The emergency meeting is being attended by key figures including Turaki, Wabara, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, and former Minister of Information Jerry Gana.

In his remarks, Turaki informed participants that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had sent apologies for his absence, while the Bauchi State Governor was expected to join the meeting.

He added that further updates on the reconciliation efforts would be discussed during a closed-door session, expressing optimism that ongoing negotiations would help resolve the party’s internal crisis and strengthen its position ahead of future elections.
