Breaking: Plateau Government Declares 48-Hour Curfew In Jos North After Deadly Attack

The Plateau State Government has announced a 48-hour curfew in Jos North following a deadly attack on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday.

Panic spread across Jos North on Sunday evening after suspected gunmen attacked the community, leaving several people feared dead and many others injured.

The assault, which reportedly took place around 7:50 pm, involved heavily armed attackers who stormed the area and opened fire on residents. The gunshots forced people to flee in different directions as chaos erupted.

Although the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed, local sources reported that several people were killed while many others sustained gunshot injuries.

The curfew was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap. It is set to begin at midnight on March 29, 2026, and will remain in effect until April 1, 2026.

The state government described the incident as a serious security breach that resulted in loss of lives and injuries. The administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemned the attack, calling it barbaric and unprovoked.

According to the statement, “Following the tragic incident at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, which led to loss of lives and injuries, the Plateau State Government, in collaboration with security agencies, has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect.”

The government assured residents that security forces were already working to restore peace and bring those responsible to justice.

It further urged citizens to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid investigations.
