Breaking: Police Arrest Elderly Suspect, Three Others Over Violent Crimes In Akwa Ibom State

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 70-year-old man alongside three others over alleged attempted murder and cult-related offences in Uruk Anam Local Government Area.

The arrests were carried out based on credible intelligence as part of efforts to tackle violent crime and restore order in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Friday, identifying the suspects as Okon Akpan (70), John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50), and Idorenyin Umoh (22).

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong Village in Uruk Anam LGA after the police acted on a petition alleging attempted murder, malicious damage, and cult-related activities.

The command described the operation as a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

Police operatives reportedly executed the operation with precision, leading to the successful arrest of the suspects.

During the raid, officers recovered one locally made pistol and two long guns, strengthening allegations of the suspects’ involvement in violent activities.

The command assured residents that the situation in the area remains calm and under control, with measures already in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

DSP John added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected gang, noting that the arrested individuals will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
