Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the 46-year-old driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was formally taken before a Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State on Friday, January 2, 2026.

According to the police, Kayode was docked on four separate counts arising from the fatal crash.

“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, January 2, 2026,” Babaseyi said.

The charges include dangerous driving causing death, in violation of Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable in Ogun State. He was also charged with reckless and negligent driving under Section 6(1), driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily injury and property damage under Section 7(1), and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the same Act.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties but ordered his remand pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions. The case was adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further hearing.

The accident occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV driven by Kayode crashed into a stationary truck. Two of Joshua’s associates, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the incident, while Anthony Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.
