The swearing-in took place in the President’s Conference Room shortly before 4 p.m., where Darma took the oath of office and officially joined the Federal Executive Council.
Before his appointment, Darma served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). His nomination was earlier sent to the Senate, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and subsequently confirmed after a screening exercise on Thursday.
During the screening, Darma pledged to work closely with the National Assembly to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, outlining plans to improve leadership in the ministry, expand access to affordable housing, and strengthen institutions responsible for housing development.
He takes over from Ahmed Dangiwa, who exited the role following a recent cabinet reshuffle announced by the Presidency.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the changes were aimed at improving coordination in government operations and advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Following the announcement, Dangiwa officially handed over the ministry on Thursday in compliance with directives from the SGF’s office, completing the transition.
