Breaking: U.S. Embassy Suspends Visa Interviews In Abuja, Applicants Left Stranded

The update was shared on Thursday via the mission’s official account, although no specific reason or timeline for the suspension was provided. Applicants were advised to monitor their emails for information regarding rescheduled appointments.

The embassy stated that visa services in Abuja are currently unavailable, but confirmed that operations continue at the U.S. Consulate General Lagos.

It also noted that services for American citizens remain accessible in emergency situations and through scheduled appointments.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of State has authorised the departure of non-essential staff and their families from the Abuja embassy due to security concerns.

In a revised travel advisory issued on Wednesday, the department warned U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Nigeria, citing risks such as crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and civil unrest.

Nigeria remains under a “Level 3: Reconsider Travel” advisory, with several states placed on the more severe “Level 4: Do Not Travel” list, reflecting heightened security concerns in those areas.
