The moment, which quickly went viral, was broadcast live on Facebook during the Unity Worship Centre’s Thanksgiving service on Sunday, December 14, 2025. During the service, Bishop Olutayo formally presented Funmilola Akinrinde to the congregation as his wife and the church’s new “Mummy GO.”

Reactions to the Announcement

In the video, Bishop Olutayo appeared unfazed by public criticism and urged members of the congregation to welcome his wife with applause, regardless of their personal opinions.

“Whoever wants to be angry should be angry. Help me welcome Funmilola Akinrinde. This is my wife. If you are happy, clap; if you are not happy, clap,” he said.

He also referenced personal attacks and suggested there had been a “conspiracy” against him, while stating that he had not been married prior to this union.

The announcement has drawn heightened attention amid reports that Bishop Olutayo recently divorced his former wife of 33 years, Boluwatife Olutayo. Neither the bishop nor his representatives have publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding the reported separation.
